January 18, 2016 was a sad day for fans of Chick-fil-A cole slaw. The company announced that it was removing cole slaw from its menu to make room for more items. This was a devastating blow to Chick-fil-A fans who needed to get their creamy cabbage fix somewhere else.
Chick-fil-A along with their announcement released a recipe that you can make at home though. At the secret-sauce.net test kitchen, we’ve been using this recipe for the last couple of years and it’s a great one. We think that you should chop up the cabbage a bit finer than most bags of “cole slaw mix” but it does great at barbecues as a side, on a burger or hot dog, or to cool your mouth off from some spicy wing sauce.
- 4 teaspoons vinegar (white distilled)
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ teaspoon dry mustard powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 bags (10 oz bags) finely shredded cabbage, shopped to ¼ inch
- ¼ cup finely chopped carrots
Whisk vinegar, sugar, mustard, and salt together until sugar is dissolved. Add mayonnaise and whisk to mix. Add cabbage and carrots. Mix to combine. Refrigerate for 2 hours and serve.
